如今，在這個強調速度與高效的社會裡，人們的生活節奏也變得越來越快，做事時常常要一心多用，導致腦負荷太重，導致張口忘詞，做事不過腦子或突然冒出無厘頭蠢話等“腦子短路”(brainfart)的事時有發生。

It happens to you all the time. You're mid-sentence during ameeting withyour boss, working on The New York Times'crossword puzzle, typing up an essayfor grad school, or eventalking to your mom on the phone — and the next wordyou're looking for just doesn't ... come.

這種事在你身上時有發生：在會上和領導正說著一半話，正玩著《紐約時報》上的字謎遊戲，寫著畢業論文，甚至和你媽在講電話時，卻忽然忘記要說什麼瞭……

There's a scientific term for this totally common phenomenon, which we liketo call a "brain fart." "Brain fart" is used to refer to a temporary mentallapse or failure to reason correctly.

這種非常普遍的現象有個學名，我們稱之為“大腦短路”。"大腦短路"是指暫時的大腦失靈，無法正確地進行推斷。

Below is a list of brain farts that pretty much everyone has had one timeor another.

下面就是我們每個人都很可能曾經做過的腦子短路事件清單：

1. Having trouble spelling a word you've spelled a thousand timesbefore.

寫不出那個你已寫過一萬遍的字。

2. Trying the door even though the sign says, "Close".

試圖去開門上掛著“關張”字樣的門。

3. Forgetting your own age.

想不起來自己的年齡。

4. Having to turn the shower back on because you forgot to wash out theshampoo.

因為忘記沖掉洗發水，而回去重新洗。

5. Waiter says: "Enjoy your food..."

服務生說：“用餐愉快……”

Reply: "You too".

答道：“你也是。”

6. Checking your watch, then checking it again because you weren't payingattention.
