Qian Hongyan, from Yunnan, south west China, made the headlines in 2005when she was photographed 'walking' with the help of a basketball.Today, thatsame young woman is a champion swimmer with Paralympic dreams.In 2009, thedetermined girl became a national champion in the Chinese National ParalympicsSwimming Competition.Last September, she won another gold medal in the 100mbreaststroke final in the Yunnan Provincial Paralympic Games.

錢紅艷，來自中國西南部的雲南省，2005年因借助籃球“行走”的照片曝光而登上各大媒體的頭版頭條。今天，同樣的主角，這個年輕的女孩懷揣著奧運會的夢想成為瞭殘奧會遊泳冠軍。2009年，這個意志堅定的女孩在全國殘奧會遊泳比賽中獲得瞭冠軍。去年9月，她還在雲南省殘奧會100米蛙泳決賽中獲得瞭另一塊金牌。

A four-year-old Qian Hongyan had both of her legs amputated after gettinginto an accident in 2000 where she nearly lost her life. Her family wereextremely impoverished. They farmed and produced silk for a meager living.According to People's Daily Online, with little resources available, hergrandfather resorted to cutting up an old basketball to replace of her lowerbody.The little girl learnt to 'walk' on her hands by supporting her entireupper body using wooden pads with handles.The basketball helped her to balanceand provided a platform to rest on when she got tired.

2000年，四歲的錢紅艷發生瞭一場車禍，幾乎送命，經搶救後仍不得不將雙腿截肢。她的傢庭非常貧困，以務農產絲勉強為生。據人民網報道，由於沒有可用的資源，錢紅艷的祖父就決定將“改裝”後的舊籃球代替她的下肢。這個小女孩需要學習通過借助帶把手的木板支撐自己整個上身用手“行走”。籃球的作用就是幫助她保持平衡，並在她走累的時候作為一個休息的支撐物。

多年以來，當地人都叫她“籃球女孩”。2005年，錢紅艷勵志故事成為瞭全中國的焦點，之後國際媒體還報道瞭此事。這也成為瞭這個年僅十歲的女孩人生中的轉折點。在社會捐款的幫助和支持下，錢紅艷有機會穿越1600多千米的旅程到北京“佩戴”人生中第一雙腿。
